    The first light on a full path of MUSE has been achieved !

    The Field splitter prototype and mirrors on path 18 have been aligned using the Fore Optics sighting telescope. Then the single lens and the 2 doublets have been inserted on path 18. You can see the assembly of the Field Splitter and its single lens holders .

    The IFU simulator could be used only for mirrors alignment, since the imaging camera is still unavailable. We have nevertheless managed to take a picture of the pupil at the level of the IFU entrance.

    The IFU n°12 has been inserted on the path 18. The IFU positioning tool has been used (see picture IFUpostioningtool, IFUonpath18).

    The IFU has been connected to the vacuum system, and set to its operational pressure and temperature within one day. The good operation of the alarm system has been confirmed.

    The CU integrating sphere has been put back on the extension beam. A few exposures have been taken, with the masks of the Calibration Unit. A rough baffling, focusing and alignment has been done. The exposure attached has been taken with an arc Neon lamp and a 50micron diameter pinhole.

    A lot of spurious light can be seen since the covers are not installed, and the baffling is very rough, a line is saturated and blurs a lit bit. There is room for improvment in 2012 but this first light is promising.
